A converged ICT design for a new factory

Designing a converged IT system for a new plant

Contec designed a converged IT system that is simple, sustainable, safe, and expandable for the start-up of a new plant. The system integrated all IP devices and has been running smoothly for several years, supporting the expansion of the factory without requiring additional hardware.

The implementation of the converged IT system resulted in:

  • Smooth and reliable operation for several years
  • Support for the expansion of the factory with a new production line and user stations
  • No additional hardware required for the virtualized server room

The challenge

Creating an efficient and scalable ICT infrastructure

Our customer needed a converged IT design for a new plant that would be:

  • Simple and sustainable
  • Safe and expandable
  • Capable of integrating all IP devices

Our approach

Implementing a robust and flexible IT system

We began with the physical segmentation of office, DMZ, and production networks, utilizing ring structures to reduce cabling costs and increase redundancy. Each network was then logically segmented using VLANs to ensure efficient and secure communication. The server room was designed to automatically resolve any hardware errors using VMware High Availability and redundant switches. We implemented virtualization and thin clients to ensure that 40 user stations automatically receive their published applications and can be replaced within minutes. Additionally, redundant firewalls were installed to provide secure office access, remote assistance, and diagnostics.
