Our history
From a humble beginning in 1986, when three instrumentation engineers solidified their friendship and their ambition to establish a company that would enable operational efficiencies, Contec has grown into an internationally renowned engineering company. Its success has always been driven by its mission to prepare companies for the future through the improvement and automation of industrial processes and machines.
Right from the start, the founders decided to allow Contec employees to participate in the capital of the company, which made it an employee-owned organization. This policy allowed the company to grow and remain independent of external capital and shareholders.
The young Contec was situated close to the port of Antwerp and at first only focused on instrumentation technology. Throughout the years, the operations expanded across Europe and, more recently, in the US. In short:
1989
In 1989, shortly after starting up in Antwerp, Contec set up its Kortrijk branch. Over the years the activities expanded to include the complete industrial automation of production processes, electrical power studies and safety studies. By constantly making the difference and striving towards higher increased value for our clients, Contec grew significantly.
2012
On the 1st of January 2012, the company set up its first international branch in Ploiești, Romania.
2013
In May 2013, Contec started a branch office in Amiens, situated in the North of France. In September of the same year, two French colleagues joined the company. In that same period, Contec hired Polish engineers for the first time.
2014
In the summer of 2014 – analogous to the Romanian office – Contec started up a subsidiary in Łodź, Poland.
2018
In 2018, Contec decided to set up a subsidiary in Newcastle, UK, which is in full expansion. At the same time, a branch office was created in Bucuresti, Romania.
2019
One year later, in 2019, Contec started up its newest branch office in Hasselt. In addition to the people who work here permanently, this office is also used as a flex office for employees who work in Antwerp but live close to Hasselt.
2024
In 2024, Contec expanded its global presence by establishing a new branch in the United States, marking another significant milestone in the company’s growth and commitment to serving its international clients.
