Electrical Documentation Update to Support Production Line Modernization

Bringing accuracy and control back into evolving electrical systems

As production facilities evolve, electrical documentation often lags reality. In this case, a Polish food processing manufacturer preparing for a major line modernization in Kutno faced a familiar challenge: multiple historical modifications had left the existing documentation incomplete and unreliable.

To ensure a smooth and risk-free upgrade, Contec was engaged to rebuild accurate electrical documentation, providing the clarity and confidence needed for the next phase of engineering and implementation.

Project Highlights:

  • Full inventory of electrical cabinets during planned shutdown
  • Reconstruction and update of electrical documentation using EPLAN
  • Alignment with site-specific electrical standards
  • Improved traceability of components and system structure
  • Identification of inconsistencies and undocumented changes
  • Support for upcoming modernization and expansion activities
  • Execution within a limited maintenance window

The challenge

Modernizing a system without reliable electrical documentation

The facility was preparing for a production line expansion and modernization, but existing electrical documentation no longer reflected the actual installation. Over time, multiple changes had been implemented without proper updates to schematics, resulting in limited system visibility and increased risk.

At the same time, the operational priority was clear: maximize uptime and avoid extended shutdowns. Any documentation work had to be executed within a narrow maintenance window, without impacting ongoing production more than strictly necessary.

Without accurate documentation, the risk of unexpected issues during modernization, such as wiring inconsistencies or protection gaps, was significantly higher.

Our approach

Rebuilding system accuracy through structured on-site validation

Contec approached the project with a pragmatic, field-focused methodology.

During a planned maintenance shutdown, the engineering team conducted a detailed inventory of all required electrical cabinets and key components. This hands-on verification ensured that the collected data reflected the real installation, not outdated assumptions.

Based on this validated information, the team reconstructed the electrical documentation using EPLAN, aligning schematics with the current system configuration. In parallel, recommendations were introduced to ensure compliance with site-specific electrical standards and best practices.

The result was not just updated documentation, but a reliable engineering baseline for future work.
