The challenge
Transitioning from paper to digital
Traditionally, engineering and process environments have relied on paper and ink. However, transitioning to paperless engineering documents offers more than just environmental benefits; it revolutionizes how you handle information and collaborate, both within and outside your company.
Our approach
Digitization solutions
For several years, Contec has been executing projects aimed at reducing or eliminating physical paper, thereby increasing efficiency and sustainability. Our approach includes:
- Redrawing P&IDs in AutoCAD: For a client, we redrew 1500 Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using a standardized symbol library. These P&IDs were automatically linked in a Document Management System to their respective detail drawings, datasheets, and instrument loop drawings. This seamless document organization reduces the risk of data loss with cloud-based storage.
- Promoting Eplan eVIEW: We advocate for the use of Eplan eVIEW for electrical drawings. This free cloud storage enables you to consult your Eplan electrical drawings in a browser without an Eplan license, allowing for markups and redlining. Your electricians can access the latest versions of drawings on tablets with internet access, eliminating concerns about outdated paper copies.
- Implementing Siemens COMOS: We assist in the implementation and configuration of the Siemens COMOS platform. One of our projects included redrawing 25,000 loop drawings, fine-tuning and standardizing hundreds of scanned P&IDs, and customizing COMOS configurations and objects library.
You can start small and gradually incorporate digitization tools to ease the transition. We believe that digitizing your paper documentation will become increasingly essential to boost performance and streamline your engineering and maintenance work.
